Installing and Using Ad-aware 6

 

For Windows 2000/XP, skip to step 6. For Windows 9x/ME you will need to follow steps 1 – 5 before proceeding to step 6.

 

  1. Hold down CTRL and ALT keys on the keyboard at the same time and then press the Delete Key once.

  2.  The close Program dialog box will then appear.

  3. End-Task each item on this list except for Explorer and Systray. To End Task an item, highlight the item and click the End-Task button.

  4.  Each time you click the End-Task button the Close Program dialog box will disappear. You will again need to press the CTRL, ALT and Delete keys on the keyboard to make it reappear.

  5.  Once you see only Explorer and Systray listed in the Close Program dialog box click on the Cancel button.

  6.  Type in www.download.com in your web browser

  7. Do a search for ad aware

  8. In the results you should see a link for Ad-Aware 6

  9. Click the link and click on download now.

  10. When it asks if you want to open or save click on open

  11. Click “Next” twice, choose the location you would like it to be installed (Be default is will be installed in C:\Program Files\Lavasoft\Ad-awar) Click “Next” and click "Finish"

 

 

 

Updating and Using Ad-Aware 6

 

1.      On your Windows Desktop double click the icon “Ad-aware 6”, or navigate to START | PROGRAMS | LAVASOFT AD-AWARE 6 | Ad-aware 6

2.      Before running a scan you will need to update Ad-aware. Click “Check for Updates”

 

 

3.      Click “Connect”, if there is a new reference file it will ask if you would like download it, click “OK”. When the webupdate is complete click “Finish”.

 

 

 

(I recommend keeping Ad-aware up to date by checking for updates every week or two)

 

 

4.      To start a scan click “Start”, at the next screen make sure “Perform smart system-scan” is selected and click “Next” and sit back and watch it scan. (approx. 15-30min)

 

 

 

5.      Once the scan is complete, click “Next”. Under scanning results you will see the list of spyware objects found on your system. You’ll want to make sure every item is checked, you can accomplish this by right clicking on an item and selecting “Select all Objects”, after this click next which will start the quarantining process.

 

 

 

Depending on how many items were found and running on your system you may be prompted with this message:

 

 

6.      Click “OK”, and restart your computer. After you restart Ad-aware will run another scan before windows fully loads, keep this scan running and if it found any new objects repeat step 5.
